Silene coronaria (L.)

Also called light carnation, it is popular in cottage gardens and perennial beds due to its deep purple flowers.

The plants are very thankful and have great felt-like hairy, silvery leaves that contrast beautifully with the flowers. The hardy perennials also self-seed in the garden and keep popping up in new places. A drawing refers to the plant as early as 1410, which is then also first mentioned in writing in 1532.

Distance: 30 x 25 cm
